In the Fall of 2001, a small group of women founded an organization whose mission it was to inspire women with the power of collaborative philanthropy – Idaho Women’s Charitable Foundation. Thirty-four motivated women joined during our inaugural year. Today, the membership is more than 350 strong.
Just as our organization has grown, so has our ability to make a difference. We have invested more than $1.6 million in 81 local projects with our pooled-fund grants. These grantees range north to McCall, west to the Oregon border and east to Gooding. One of the unique aspects of IWCF membership is the opportunity to designate $500 of your contribution to organizations of your choice. Those designations, to more than 400 other grantees, have increased our overall giving to nearly $3.2 million.
IWCF strives to be a model of thoughtful philanthropic giving:
- In 2005, we recognized our “Well-Spent Million” – celebrating $1M in giving to our community
- We’ve been recognized by the Idaho chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals: in 2006, as Outstanding Foundation of the Year; and in 2011, when one of our founders, Susan Smith, was recognized as a Hero of Philanthropy.
- And, to nurture the model of pooled giving, we have been active mentors in the start of two additional Idaho organizations based on this model– The Women’s Gift Alliance in North Idaho and the Wood River Women’s Charitable Foundation in Blaine County.
