About the Endowment
Our Susan Smith Endowment was created by our members and a matching grant to provide for our long-term sustainability as philanthropists helping to transform southwest Idaho. We sincerely appreciate your initial and ongoing donations, which have given us a strong base for growth.
In the Fall of 2001, a small group of women met at Susan Smith’s kitchen table and founded an organization to inspire women to exercise the power of collaborative philanthropy. Thirty-four motivated women joined during our inaugural year. Over the last 15 years, our membership has grown to over 350 women. These women have been inspired to invest almost $3.2 million through pooled and directed giving. Indeed, IWCF is here to stay.
At our “Well-Spent Million Party” in March of 2009, IWCF launched an endowment plan and the first campaign to begin providing for our long-term sustainability. The response was amazing! We met our goal quickly, invested wisely… and then stopped talking about it.
Consistently running such a lean budget, we’ve chosen not to touch this fund during its first seven years. This year, putting the budget together, we decided it was time to invest a little in infrastructure, freshening up our look and updating our technology systems and support. As we planned our first withdrawal this coming year, we realized many of our members had not had the opportunity to contribute to our endowment. We understand that investing a little more in ourselves NOW will better position us to support our communities in the future.
